Professional Automotive Artist & Designer
My name is Clive Botha, also known as "The Cartist"! I am a professional automotive artist and designer based in the metropolitan city of Nelson Mandela Bay, located in the Eastern Cape province, South Africa. My love for cars must be as old as I am, because I don’t recall when it started. Growing up in the ‘motor city’ of South Africa, cars have had a strong presence in my life ever since I can remember.
My passion for art led me to study graphic design at the Nelson Mandela University, after which I worked in the automotive media and communications field for over a decade, managing my own digital media agency, called MotorMedia Communications.
In 2015, I rediscovered my passion for automotive art, dusted off my sketch pad and pencils and reimmersed myself into my passion. I went on to create "The Cartist" - a full-service automotive art and design agency, and I've since done work for clients in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia as well as countries across Europe and the Middle East, ranging from corporates and collectors to owners and enthusiasts.
From Pencil to Pixel to Paint - I create unique automotive drawings, car paintings and designs, specialising in classic and contemporary sports and performance cars for clients worldwide. In addition, everything from the drawing and painting materials I use (markers, pens, pencils and acrylic paints) to the packaging that the artwork is shipped in, is authentic and of the highest quality. Old-school techniques are combined with modern materials to make sure that every commissioned artwork or design that leaves my agency is a beautiful masterpiece!
Passion for Performance
Over the years, I have had the privilege to travel to leading automotive manufacturing countries such as the USA, Germany, Italy, France and England. This further fuelled my passion for cars and for motoring. Through these travels, I have had the opportunity to visit numerous motoring showrooms, motoring museums and racetracks, where I test drove some of the world’s most iconic supercars, such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren and Corvette, to name a few.
I have also completed an Advanced Driving Skills course with Yokohama Driving Dynamics at the world-renowned Gerotek Vehicle Testing facility situated in Pretoria, South Africa and have since test-driven vehicles for various brands.
In 2016, I was accepted as a full member of the prestigious British Guild of Motoring Artists. This is a great honour and I am extremely proud to represent my country on this distinguished platform.
